Kelman Duran (b. 1984, Dominican Republic) is an artist, filmmaker, and musician who is interested in the way disenfranchised communities respond to civic architecture and mechanisms of surveillance. Since 2012, he has been creating a long-term work titled To the North, a video archive comprising research of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota to examine marginalized histories and aesthetics of the region. Duran received a B.A. in sociology from State University of New York at Binghamton and an M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts. He has exhibited and screened works at the Echo Park Film Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
