In October 2016, The Main Museum opened Beta Main as a space to present public exhibitions and programs while the rest of the museum is under construction. True to its name, Beta Main is a physical and conceptual space for experimentation in anticipation of the fully realized museum. The 3,500-square-foot space features high ceilings, original column and tile-work from the early 1900s, and windows looking out to 4th Street, and is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday when exhibitions are on view (check current open hours here).

Throughout all phases of The Main’s development, which includes exhibitions, artist residencies, and public programs mounted by Beta Main, the museum will continue to refine its vision and methods as it learns from the community, artists, experimentation, and Downtown Los Angeles.

TESTING

Beta Main is a space for experimentation. As we work toward the opening of The Main Museum, we aim to have dialogues with the public about the future of the site. Have ideas for future collaboration, comments about your experience visiting Beta Main, or something else to share? We’d love to hear it: here.
