In October 2016, The Main opened Beta Main as a space to present public exhibitions and programs while the rest of the museum is under construction. True to its name, Beta Main is a physical and conceptual space for experimentation in anticipation of the fully realized museum. The 3,500-square-foot space features high ceilings, original column and tile-work from the early 1900s, and windows looking out to 4th Street, and is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday when exhibitions are on view (check current open hours here).
Throughout all phases of The Main’s development, which includes exhibitions, artist residencies, and public programs presented in Beta Main, the museum will continue to refine its vision and methods as it learns from the community, artists, experimentation, and Downtown Los Angeles.
Beta Main is currently closed for construction and will reopen on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 2–5pm for the opening celebration of our upcoming exhibitions Dora De Larios: Other Worlds and Rigo 23: Ripples Become Waves.
Beta Main will resume regular hours on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. The museum will be open Wednesday–Sunday from 12–7pm.

Beta Main is a space for experimentation. As we work toward the opening of The Main, we aim to have dialogues with the public about the future of the site. Have ideas for collaboration, comments about your experience visiting Beta Main, or something else to share? We’d love to hear it: here.
